HHS encourages all writers to enter the annual Scholastic Writing Awards. Students may enter pieces in a wide range of categories, including:

Critical Essay
Dramatic Script
Flash Fiction
Humor
Journalism
Novel Writing
Personal Essay / Memoir
Poetry
Sci-fi / Fantasy
Short Story
Writing Portfolio (for Seniors only)

In any given year, HHS *may* have the ability to help pay for the submission fees. The English Department can cover submission costs on a first come, first served basis. If you have any submissions, please see Ms. Ellam to discuss whether or not the department can still pick up the cost. Students with multiple submissions *may* only receive partial funding, depending on demand.

Students must create an account on the Scholastic Art and Writing website in order to submit. You will need to attach your account to HHS during this process. If you are having any difficulty with creating an account or uploading your works, please contact Ms. Ellam.

The deadline is in early December – please see your English teacher or the hallway posters for specific dates.
